Nothing inspires and touches my heart me more than hearing stories and seeing examples of people dealing with and enduring deep pain and sorrow, especially the pain of losing loved ones. The moments of biggest fears and doubts – doubts about the meaning of life and God, are the ones which so often make us stronger. A paradox, indeed one of the biggest.
And it’s not by accident, as the song “The Reason for the World” by Matthew West points out:
Maybe the reason for the pain is so that we would pray for strength
And maybe the reason for the strength is so that we would not lose hope
And maybe the reason for all hope is so that we could face the world
And the reason for the world is to make us long for home
I never heard of the song, or even Matthew West for that matter, until I saw this post earlier this evening which links to a fan-produced video of West’s song. It’s something to consider as we deal with yet another senseless tragedy.
