Rep: West: “All of Us Born With Silver Spoon”

I’m not a big fan of Rep. Allen West’s bombastic way of getting his points across. At times, this approach doesn’t serve him or the conservative cause well because people focus on the style instead of on the substance.

However, Rep. West’s Facebook post yesterday in response to President Obama’s “silver spoon” criticism of Mitt Romney was spot-on in delivery and message:

President Barack Obama continues to display his lack of understanding the ideal of American exceptionalism. All Americans are born with a silver spoon. It is represented in the liberty, freedoms, and democracy this Constitutional Republic affords. It is in the unalienable individual rights granted to us by our Creator of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness (property). It is the reason why so many have departed other countries to seek the silver spoon which provides equality of opportunity. Sadly, we are witnessing hope and change being replaced by divide and rule. God has blessed America with the silver spoon which we pass onto subsequent generations, honor that blessing.

I think Pres. Obama understands perfectly well. However, acknowledging and praising the wealthy doesn’t fit his party’s narrative. A narrative that seeks to divide rather than unite.

  1. Mitt Romey [the guy who is putting a car elevator in his multi-million dollar Southern California house while his wife rides her Austrian dressage horses] trying to portray himself as an ordinary guy is ludicrous. That’s all Obama was saying. Rep. West, who probably is the last guy who is qualified to be talking about uniting America, knows that and is simply trying to further exploit those American’s minds who actually believe that Obama is a socialist who hates capitalism [as the automakers that he helped save and the stock market soars!]

Let me also point out to you [one who despises over-generalizations] that the Democrats party narrative does not include hating on the wealthy. That is probably the narrative Republicans want and, quite frankly, desperately need it to be but the vast majority of Democrats respect capitalism and making money. What they don’t respect are programs for the poor being cut or ignored so that preferential treatment [in the form of tax breaks] can continue for the rich and oil companies and corporations who pay absolutely no tax, none, when doing business in this country.

Rep. West should be criticized for his continued distortion of the President’s record of appreciating the ideals and exceptionalism of the United States. Instead his message is legitimized by ideologues who are more interested in promoting their party than they are of promoting the truth.

And, George, please keep your nose out of this one.

    • Mitt Rom(n)ey [the guy who is putting a car elevator in his multi-million dollar Southern California house while his wife rides her Austrian dressage horses] trying to portray himself as an ordinary guy is ludicrous. That’s all Obama was saying.

There you go. Romney and his wife have also raised a family and have worked hard for their success, like many Americans. Obama mentioned the phrase and he knew exactly what the intent of it was supposed to portray. So what if Gov. Romney has elevators in his house and his wife rides Austrian horses. Who cares?!!

And, yes, the Democrat Party narrative is ALL ABOUT class warfare. No doubt. Of course, they’ll never admit it in that many words, but actions and rhetoric clearly spells this out for anyone who bothers to be honest. I’m certainly not all for unabashed capitalism at the expense of others, but if self-identified Democrats want to point out how they’re for capitalism and all that other good stuff, they need to start pointing out with more frequency when those who represent them continue with the divisive narrative that despises the rich.

BTW, George can stick his nose in here all he wants. Just like you.

      • “So what if Gov. Romney has elevators in his house and his wife rides Austrian horses. Who cares?!! ”

C’mon, Robert, cut it out. Most Democrats don’t care until Romney starts in with the normal guy routine. I could care less that he’s rich, but him and his wife claim to represent the average American, it’s ludicrous to everyone but the 20%’ers.

Every Democrat is about class warfare? Every single one? Millions of them? I’m thinking you’ve just totally forfeited your ability to raise hell when someone over generalizes. Not that this will stop you from hypocritically doing it in the future, of course.

        .

    • BTW, Rick, if not class warfare then dazzle us with your acumen and explain to all of us “intellectual inferior[s]” what the “99%” movement is all about.

Because all I hear at those rallies is “GIMME, GIMME, GIMME, GIMME, GIMME, GIMME” with hearty and heart-felt “FUCK YOUs” seasoned with ‘EAT THE RICH” rhetoric aimed at the ones doing the “GIVING.”

      • You make a valid point. The Democratic Party (I.e. Politicians and the like), far from being critical of the Occupy movement, has generally been supportive. After all it fits their narrative to a tee so they can’t afford to criticize. You certainly can’t say the same about their feelings for the Tea Party which they demonize at every possible opportunity.

  2. Rick, I think your reading comprehension is off today. I said that the Democratic Party is guilty of language that demeans the rich. Surely you understand the difference between the PARTY and regular voters, right? That’s why I specifically mentioned the party which is made up of politicians and their operatives. I thought it was pretty clear. I stand by what I wrote 100 percent.
